      It's not, I selected the noise gate by accident, rather than the expander, so the gate is clipping the sounds. I also have clipping as the volume was too high. I later noticed I had knocked the audio to 10db gain. Never edit when you are tired!!

      @@NatsWright doh! 😂 Nevermind, I got the jist of your video but the audio was bothering me. Just thought I'd point it out in case you were unaware for next time. Cheers for the information. I do hope Fujifilm can keep improving their AF. It still lags behind Sony, Canon and Nikon unfortunately. I saw one video where the AF was better on firmware 2.0 than it is on 4.0 (using 35mm f1.4). 🤦🏽‍♂️

      @@Feemy Thanks, I'm still learning audio, and honest comments like yours are cool, how else would I learn! The AF is an issue, as its very situational. You have have areas when it is great, or, like I had on a model shoot last week, it was fine, then just randomly started focusing on the background, despite the camera telling me it had detected a face! The AF my Lumix S5ii got recently was a game changer that really fixed loads of bugs. However Lumix took over a year to release it so maybe that was key? Taking time to be sure of a good update that has been tested. The new AF on the fuji cameras seems better, but I wont know till i've used it for a while, hence the first impressions. Thanks for watching through my terrible audio! I'm normally better!

      It depends on the look you want, but 0 should be fine. If you want a little more grit to the look, set it to -1 or -2, as the ISO rises, you'll see more noise, and for mono images this can actually work ok!

    On my XS10 I have a glitch with the screen histogram. when the camera is in S with auto ISO and exp comp at 0 and I have mistakenly moved the SS to outside the range of the aperture (causing the f number to become red on the screen) the histogram remains unchanged and doesn’t show the pic as being over or under exposed. As I don’t always check the settings, and avoid chomping, but rely on the histogram to ETT I have found my pics regularly over exposed. 😂 Is this just me? Doesn’t matter whether the lcd is in natural live view or not.

    • @NatsWright
      @NatsWright Місяць тому

      Natural live view turns of simulations to the exposure, such as film sims. It's mainly for night or long exposure shots, so I'd turn it off for normal use as the histogram won't work correctly in this mode. As long as exposure simulation is on, that's fine, however when the display for aperture or shutter goes red, this is because you are in Shutter or aperture priority. If you say, were in shutter priority and you set the shutter to 1/8000 and the lens could only open to F4, it would display in red if the exposure could not be achieved. With natural live view off, the histogram will work. Also I. Shutter or aperture priority, the EV dial works normally, -1 EV is just that, as is +2 EV. The issue I discussed was full manual with auto iso, then the EV meter behaves oddly, and you cannot be sure where the dial for EV is set as it's not marked.

    • @andreweberhard3873
      @andreweberhard3873 Місяць тому

      Thanks for you spending your time to reply. I agree with your issue but I don’t often shoot in manual mode, I normally use apeture priority. My issue is only in shutter priority which I recently though I’d try. In your scenario in shutter priority when the shutter speed is set to 1/8000 and the lens at f/4 shows red the histogram is still displaying that the photo is correctly exposed rather than pushing all the way to the right. This happens regardless of whether live view mode is on or off. I shoot in MF with Back button focus and don’t use the half shutter press to focus. The f number only shows red when shutter is half pressed. So if using manual focus and looking at histogram for an exposure I have sometimes hurriedly snapped off a shot not checking the shutter speed and only relying on my histogram which is not accurate. I realise the mistake is mine but I feel the histogram should move when the actual photo settings are going to create a poorly exposed photo.

    • @NatsWright
      @NatsWright Місяць тому

      @@andreweberhard3873 ideally the histogram should move, but it won't as in any semi auto mode, the exposure is controlled by the camera. With natural live view enabled, the histogram won't work, the camera displays in red any settings that indicate a problem with exposure. Maybe this could extend to the histogram when exposure cannot be achieved. However turning off natural live view would enable the histogram to accurately reflect any exposure issues. As you are using back button focus, when pressed, the exposure is displayed. Adjust settings to prevent any red numbers. What you change depends if the camera is under or over exposing too. This is where the EV dial actually works. Set negative 3 EV in the case of under exposing and the camera should compensate by changing the aperture to F8. However ISO should be manually set too, or this may change over aperture!!

    Hi Natalie thanks for the explaining of various cameras lenses in use while you took your beautiful pictures, you put a lot of effort into your photography but it paid off the shots were great. Time laps is that going to be a form of image stacking 2sec each one I'm not sure how that works? anyway thanks Natalie.......Tony

    • @NatsWright
      @NatsWright Місяць тому

      Thanks! Time lapse photography is something that merits a discussion on its own. But think of it like this. You set you camera up to photo rolling clouds and take 125 photos each at 1/30 exposure. The photos are taken every minute, so it takes 125 minutes to take the sequence. You then assemble them into a short video sequence, at 25fps. 125/25 =5 so you get a 5 second time lapse that represents 125 minutes of passing time, hence the name!

Disturbing during feeding is a topic. Also threatening the nests which may force stressful behaviour onto the birds, attempting to divert the predators from the nest. interesting Natalie about auto focus things keep improving. I use lens hoods depending on the lens as you know some lenses just catch stray light so easy and spoil contrast. I've been using a wide lens around a 26mm which I just got and I don't have a lens hood for it, so will be interested how my pictures turn out for me, I took a few with strong light in them. Plus I have been known to bang the front of my lens into things so a hood helps in that sense also. looking forward to hearing how you get on with the sound equipment problems.......Tony

      Thanks Tony! Video coming shortly on the bike audio! I'll master it for sure, in time. Certainly wider lenses are more suspectable to light detraction when not using a hood. Lens hoods are often missing, my 40-140mm f2.8 fuji had no hood although I did manage to get one later on!

  • @don_at_large
    @don_at_large 2 місяці тому

    By placing a small hole on each end of the lens hood, I can attach a stretchy chin string, so I don't lose my lens hood. Wearing my lens hood proper, permits other people right away to recognize, I am a photographer. With my lens hood on my crown, I can gather the cosmic universal knowledge of photographic energy in the atmosphere. A really nice thing is being able to paint my lens hoods in different colors to match my attire for the day. I picked a sky blue color to wear when making video. When people see me wearing my blue lens hood they right away know, I am recording video. Some day I may mount a solar panel or propeller to gather solar energy for charging the camera. It is nice to know there is at least one other photographer who knows how to wear a proper lens hood and what it means. I am a disabled Veteran with an active imagination, totally bored... None of us were born with life manuals and trying something new and getting better at it is moving forward, so don't beat yourself up about it, I'm useless at riding a motorbike, yet operated turntable ladders and fire appliances. Don't give up!

    Using Fuji S-X20 with used 70-300mm f4 and used 2X extender... This combo hits my sweet spot. Gave up Full Frame light gathering because of the weight of kit. My Fuji kit does what I need for stills and 240fps video. Also use Topaz. I am retired, disabled veteran, its my hobby. Really enjoy your presentations. I am subscribed. Thank you.

      Very good combo, the 70-300, it's a very light lens, ideal for travel!

      Thanks! I discovered more on the audio and it seems that this is an issue with all DJI OSMO action cameras. They have no audio adjustment and when the helmet visor is shut, the audio clips. However I have a possible £7 solution from amazon, all will be revealed on the next episode of Natalie's Sofa lol

    Good suggestions at the end of the video. There really is no perfect lens. So really that just means we have to buy loads of lenses 😂

    I love the cat excellent choice of subjects this week thank you The Olympus cameras were and still are sort after half frame using film, I used film as a young man but went into digital for 95% of my work right at the beginning of the digital storm I use a Olympus film camera to this day with the original lenses full frame, the great thing is I can use them on my Sony full frame and other cameras as well mirrorless ones. The card conundrum and what your cameras buffer can do is still raging I see lol write read etc you explained it very well Natalie but basically the camera as a limit it can write or read the card you use needs to be able to cover the camera speed and your good to go. I tend to use SanDisk cards only because I have never had any problems with there cards at all but I have with other cards. I used a full frame digital camera with my bike Natalie mainly zooms with various focal lengths kept it very limited but these days we have a far greater choice in cameras small light and very good results I tend to use waterproof if possible I'm not able to use a motorbike anymore sadly but do still get out on wet days here and there the UK weather I'm sure you know what I mean lol. The Pentax camera in the video Natalie is it a new camera? there going to make I'm unsure about it trying to keep up at times is difficult lol. keep things simple Natalie a XT5 and a few choice lenses maybe a small gimble should be more than enough I think For most of the work I hope your health remains good enjoy yourself Tony.......

      Hiya Tony, the camera in the image, although a pentax, is just an idea of what it may look like it turns out, I looked again today and was unable to find out any actual images. Shame you cannot get out on your bike these days, but at least you stay dry! I do love my FF cameras, but they are ever so heavy. I may force myself to go on a road trip without the lumix cameras! I'm terrible when traveling, I'd bring the kitchen sink if I could!

    Hay nat. Found your video while having the same problem. Maarten Heilbron did a vid about xs10 exposure. What you can do is map a reachable function button to M+EV. That switches both front and back dials to exposure competition. I use the AFon button. Please keep up the sx20 content.

    Hello Natalie, based upon your Bird slow motion with Fuji S-X20. I purchased a Fuji S-X20 and bought a used 70-300 and 2X extender to go with it. Very happy with this combination for picking up 240fps of birds and wildlife. It is Shutter Therapy for me, a great hobby. Thank you so much. I subscribed some time ago, and continue to enjoy your work.

    Hi Natalie i seen the egg run very good video i enjoyed it travel with the bike is great i did it for years had a ball doing it but you will be very limited in what you can take with you one reason i loved was just what you said you can pull over side of the road take pictures the set up in your house looks fine the cat seems to like being in the video lol remember you need to have a life as well so shooting the video on the small set up is the way to go i think for you. try keep things simple with the bike carrying things if i get time i will send you an email soon got workmen here at the moment doing a job for me Im Tony....... one 0f the 840subs

      Thanks Tony, totally get you. My bike is actually teaching me to me more minimalist, as you really are limited in what you can carry. On that Easter Egg Run, I had only the S5IIX, with the 24-105mm F4, the Pocket 3 and the Mini 4 Pro. I also had my action camera, but that was mounted on the bike at all times!
